Logitech Extreme 3D Pro Joystick Review

Logitech Extreme 3D Pro Joystick Review:

There was a time when we had to buy capable joysticks for a high price. This is not the case anymore, and these days you can get something high quality like Logitech Extreme 3D Pro for a very reasonable price.

Research has shown that advanced flying comes down to instincts and reaction time. To assist pilots, lab boys designed a custom twist-handle rudder called Extreme 3D Pro, resulting in natural one-handed control with a smaller device footprint.

With Extreme 3D Pro, every command is under your control, and this is something that takes your gaming (and, of course, flying) experience to a whole new level. The programmable buttons on this joystick let you execute different commands, from the intricate macros to the simplest ones.

The flight stick market sits in stark contrast to racing wheels, where you generally have to spend well over £150 to get even a passable experience.

When you want to purchase a new accessory, the VFM (Value for money) is one of the most critical factors that come to mind. The good news is that Extreme 3D Pro is there for the best VFM and can ultimately exceed your expectations of a high-quality joystick. Although its plastic design may look deceptive, you don’t need to worry about dropping it down on the floor or gaming abuse anymore because Extreme 3D Pro is one of the most solid joysticks in the market and can guarantee your gaming experience for long years.

Pros of Extreme 3D Pro:

⦁ Easy to use
⦁ Durable
⦁ Reliable

Cons of Extreme 3D Pro:

⦁ Apart from the odd inputs when the joystick was centred (which only started happening after 4+ years of intense use on mine), I can’t say anything I don’t like about this joystick.

Overall Rating:

5 out of 5

Definition of a Joystick:

definition of joystick

A joystick has a “track” or “pattern” that the stick moves on when it is moved. When you hold a joystick in your hand and move it toward or away from the top of the stick, the “track” moves in that direction. The “pattern” that the stick moves on changes direction when you move it, and moves at a constant speed to make that motion repeatable.

Gain, sway and jiggle are attributes of joystick states. A joystick state that has a high value of gain (or a high degree of jiggle) indicates that the stick is “wobbly” and you can rotate it by putting a finger against the track of the stick in the direction you want the stick to go.

What are an analogue stick and a joystick wheel?

Analogue sticks can be used in the absence of buttons, in which case they provide direct control of the control. For example, the analogue stick on the Nintendo 64 controller allows the player to aim the controller’s analogue stick.

And a separate joystick, not designed for use with analogue controls, is called a “joystick.”

A joystick wheel or dual-stick controller consists of a combination of two or more buttons or sticks with a separate central scroll wheel, which can be either a button or a joystick. The central scroll wheel allows the player to scroll through a selection of items in a selection interface by moving the wheel.

Advantages and disadvantages of a joystick:

Joysticks are relatively easy to use; most modern computers come with a standard joystick included. They are inexpensive to produce and are easy to construct. Joysticks make it easy to start playing the game without a computer, which is necessary for some games.

The tradeoff of joysticks is that they are usually very sensitive and, therefore, sensitive to not only how you hold them but also how the game is designed. Moving your hands to a specific position will make the joystick do different things, so you have to pay close attention to what you’re doing.

Introduction of Extreme 3D Pro:

Not a long time ago, we didn’t have many choices when we were looking for gaming accessories like headsets or joysticks, but thanks to the technology revolution that has been happened during the recent years in the gaming accessory market, you have access to a wide choice of affordable as well as high-quality products in this field.

Popular headsets like the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift include two-degrees-of-freedom (2DOF) motion tracking systems.

By wearing headsets and using joysticks, flight enthusiasts can experience the thrill of flying with physical controls such as joysticks and gamepads in their hands.

When it comes to flight simulation experience, joysticks and headsets are two items that can work like make or break, and there are well-known companies like Logitech that surprise gaming users with their products every now and then. Logitech also has a long experience in designing and developing products specifically for flying, from the wireless mouse to durable keywords and now it backs with a new product called Extreme 3D Pro.

Now let’s take a look at some of the best features of Extreme 3D Pro.

Build Quality:

From my point of view, Extreme 3D Pro has everything you need to become a pro gamer. One of the things that I hate in joysticks is that the stick and throttle are loose to move, which can kill your gaming experience. However, the good news is that this is not what is going to happen with Extreme 3D Pro.

To be honest, I felt some move while I was using it in the centre it was okay because firstly, it was new and secondly the movement was not considered at all, so it’s totally acceptable for me.

Well, it must be said that I’ve tested Extreme 3D Pro in many different ways, from handling it on centre for a long time to an unnatural position, etc., and yes, it passed all my tests perfectly!

Programmable Buttons:

programmable buttonsprogrammable buttons

This is the feature that I love in this joystick. With 12 pro buttons on it, there’s not any action you “can’t” do with these 12 dedicated buttons. Plus all commands games from the most complex to the simplest ones are under your fingertips.

Personally, I think that you won’t even need a mouse or keyword anymore. That is because it gives you more space on your desk which will result in a more enjoyable gaming experience.

Also, Extreme 3D Pro include eight-way hat switch, and if you ask, would it be the advantage of using it? I would say that if you are a flight simulator, you’re going to love it. That is because it’s perfect for small throttle controllers as well as POV cockpit views, and only flight simulators know what I’m talking about!

Also, the trigger button placed on the joystick is convenient. You can easily take your time to line up each shot for picture-perfect kills.

The buttons include:

⦁ 24 Function Button Sets (Aircraft, Aircraft & Cockpit Controls, X-Plane, 3D Max & P3D Flight Simulators)
⦁ 6 X-Plane & Flight Simulator Button Sets (3D X-Plane,3D Crushability, P3D Flight Simulator)
⦁ 6 Mechanical Gaming Keys with Click Motor (Breath Right, Flight OST, Game View, Flight Tracker, Water Map)
⦁ 4 Mapping Key Sets (AIRLOG, X-PLANE, ENGAGE, FLIGHT PLAN, TWISK)
⦁ 4 Tactical Keys (AIRLOG, TWISK, DEFRACT, CHOPPERS)
⦁ 3 Mechanical (3D) Buttons with 3D Mouse (TURN, FIRE, LAUNCH)

8-Way Hat Switch:

⦁ Extreme 3D Pro has eight small hat switches, allowing for four simultaneous control axes for all 10 axes.
⦁ High-Speed Trigger
⦁ The custom trigger has a high-speed programmable trigger that enables you to throw a punch in any direction easily.

Conclusion:

I like the reliable Logitech Extreme 3D Pro. It has no LED lighting, no LCD screens, or other such stuff that breaks easily. It also doesn’t have over a hundred programmable controls. Although in the end, those can be useful, you don’t really need that, in my opinion. This is a joystick that excels in ease-of-use, reliability and durability, and I love it for that.

It also has near-perfect build quality. It’s not super cheap (and it certainly wasn’t when I bought it), but that’s the price you pay for the traits I’ve named above. I’ve seen cheaper sticks not being used half as much break down in not half the time. If you’re looking for an easy-to-use stick, which is very durable and will serve for a long time, this is the one for you.

  1. I have been looking for a good joystick for flight simulators. I need one with incredible directional control as well as some handy shortcut buttons. And I like both you have mentioned here, Logitech and Thrustmaster. But in my humble opinion, Thrustmaster is better. Thank you very much for this review. You have helped me decide

    1. You are welcome Ann.I am using logitech joystick. I believe it is good because I used it for a while and it is functioning fine.

  2. I  am not surprised Logitech joystick makes the list of trusted joysticks. Logitech is an house hold name in producing and marketing computer parts. I am sure you can trust the product and the 3 years warranty. I never new the joystick could be that instrumental. Even at view the viewing the aircraft and wing from outside.

  3. I am disabled, and I think this joystick would be the answer to what I’m looking for. Keyboard controls can be a pain with limited finger range of motion. I think the joystick would make the flying experience more enjoyable—great review on the Logitech Joystick.  Best of luck with your blog.
